No this is not a kind of sushi. This is not a new video game console. Watsu is a sport, or rather a relaxation technique. It uses the soothing properties of water-stress for us ... Focus on that activity.
What is it?
Watsu Shiatsu is a technique adapted to the water! She mixes gentle movements and stretches that relax muscles, relieve aches and relax the whole body.
The principle
One enters a basin of hot water, close to body temperature. We test different positions (squatting, lying ...) and we let ourselves be carried by water to release all our body. The goal is to let go and indulge in water. There is a work-related breathing exercises to feel the buoyancy of the water and relax deeply. The coach makes us do slow and gentle movements and stretching correlated with the movement of water. It also exerts pressure on certain places (the coach makes some strong points on the body using hands, thumbs, elbows or knees) and it is our joint work. It performs a kind of aquatic dance very slow! A perfect body therapy for everyone.
The benefits of water
In water, the spine is low body weight and more mobile and flexible than on land. So we can more easily perform the movements and gestures that we could not do on earth. Everything we do is more fluid in the water.
The origins of Watsu
This Japanese relaxation technique was invented in 1980 in the United States, specifically California. Harold Dull develops a method that mixes artistic movements and zen shiatsu borrowed and movements that are done in hot water. It focuses on the exercises work deep breathing.
Where to practice?
For now, this technique is not widespread. It can be practiced in spas. But not all, only a dozen.
